The Rickshaw Graveyard
Dhaka, the cycle rickshaw capital of the world, is a city in constant movement. An estimated 250,000 rickshaws crowd the largest city in Bangladesh. Unlicensed or abandoned rickshaws are impounded in this facility on Agargaon road. Those in usable condition are transported to various regions around the country and distributed free of cost. The rest are disassembled for parts or simply left to languish in overgrown weeds. Children play in and around these skeletal structures and in the rusted-out shells of buses and other vehicles. These images were taken over several visits in January and February of 2008.
